My Kentucky adventure (1)

My Husbands Mothers side of the family is from Kentucky, The Bluegrass State has a rich history from the early explorers, to being admitted to the Union as the fifteenth state in 1792, through the Civil War and beyond. While traipsing around old family cemeteries I found family members that had lived and died there before they became a state and was just known as the "Great Meadow" by many of the local Indian Tribes. From about 1650 until the arrival of the first white settlers, Shawnee tribes from north of the Ohio River and the Cherokee (My Husband is part Cherokee, part Irish and Bohemian...lol....Just let your mind wrap around that for a minute! lol) and Chickasaw tribes from south of the Cumberland River fought for control of the "Great Meadow." During this time, no Indian nation held possession of the land that would eventually become Kentucky.

It is really beautiful down there with it's blue grass and red clay and rolling hills, valley's and hollers......I tried to capture as much in pictures as I could, but I was constantly held back from my Darling Husband due to the fact that there are Copperheads, Rattlesnakes, Black Widows Spiders, Brown Recluse Spiders, and a lot of bootlegging since it has been a dry county for decades....and unfortunately it is now littered with meth labs too.......so I can understand his caution.

One thing I noticed for sure after my many years of attending his family reunions down south is.....the smaller the town the bigger the gossip! lol........I'll be posting pictures from things I found photo worthy from my trip down south over the next couple of days.....here is but a glimpse of some of Kentucky's natural beauty and some of my Brother-In-Laws horses!

You just described my town!  LOL!  The dangerous creatures and the meth labs...lmao!!  We aren't a dry town though...they changed that a few years ago, much to the dismay of many people.  But you still have your bootleggers that make the white lightnin'!  =)

Aw, Kentucky.... Home of Beautiful Horses and Fast Women... I'm alowed to say that cause I was born there ;)   My Grandmother and Mom live in a Dry county... and yes, moonshine is still around! And about relatives from back home... well, we have some relatives that we would occasionally visit that still live 'in the hills' and raise 'bacca'... <LOL>

I love Kentucky very much, and although I love to travel, I can't imagine living anywhere else. But DH was right--we just saw a rattlesnake a few weeks ago, and a kid was bitten by a copperhead. What town did you visit?
