The seasons of me.......

           fallyellow.jpg

The leaves are already starting to brown and fall from my beloved birch trees....I think because of the unusually dry summer I won't get much in the blaze of glory which happens in the fall when the leaves turn this incredible gold color before falling and blowing away in winds of fall.

At least I get to enjoy somewhat of an Indian summer here in the burbs of Chicago. We have temperatures in the 90's again for this weekend. Normally I would growl over temperatures in the 90's I'm not a fan of sweating without a purpose, but because I know sunny warm days will be coming to an end soon, I will relish this heat. Soon our heat index numbers will be replaced with wind chill factors and when it gets that cold I am often a prisoner in my own home. I am also not fond of bitter cold and frost bite. I flourish in the spring and fall months.....spring refreshes my spirit and fall refreshes my view of the world with splendid colors.

So far I do not feel the pull of winter coming, where my spirit tends to hibernate until spring.....maybe this year it won't be so bad. It seems I don't fall as deep into the abyss of winter with each passing year. Maybe because I am more keenly aware of its approach or maybe because I do not fight it and I let it wash over me quickly. It has been my constant winter companion for the last 11 years, so maybe we are just comfortable with each other by now.

It helped to realize that I too, just like the flowers of spring......I am a perennial.

Very pretty leaves. If we don't soon get some rain here in Al we will not have any pretty leaves either. Helen

I love the picture!  So pretty.  I am a huge nature lover and I am hoping to move south to a rural town soon.  Thanks for the post, it was a reminder of things to come both good and bad, and how to treasure them.

Ahh yes the Chicago area..me too! I love the seasons. You know I think it is also because we certainly do not get the horrible winters we use to when I was a kid...wind chills below zero...heck temperatures way below zero! We haven't had snow storms where it took weeks to dig out of. Maybe I should knock on wood! Ha! I just saw a bit of color yesterday also near my friends. I agree...I think this bit of heat may be the last being starting mid Sept now! Enjoy the colors!

Enjoyed your leaves because when I left New Orleans to come here, well, I left the leaves behind.

I do have one tree in back corner of my backyard.  You'd think, being as we're in Arizona, they'd have planted the tree to SHADE the house, but it sheds all over back there.  I'm not really complaining because not everyone has a tree.  It's a bit of a novelty!

Here's hoping this is a GENTLE winter.

I simply love this. I could not have said it better. You captured what is in my mind and in my heart completly. I live near Chicago, and have here in the midwest for
45 years. I used to dread the winters. I would even get depressed.
But with each year, they bother me less and less. I too feel the winters and I have gotten more comfortable with each other.
Thank you so very much for sharing this. It is just so beautiful.

It's been dry here in NJ too. A lot of leaves are prematurely turning yellowish-brown and falling. Hopefully we'll get some rain from Ophelia. The farmers need it too! Take Care, Antonette http://journals.aol.com/ernhrtfanalwys3/MySoCalledLife/
